Spotlight: Colorado Advocacy Groups
The White River
Conservation Coalition, made up of groups such as Colorado
Wild, the Aspen
Wilderness Workshop (AWW) and the Southern
Rockies Forest Network is working to protect The
White River National Forest (NF) whose management
plan, is undergoing revision and much scrutiny. Local and regional
conservation groups have said that the White River National Forest's
revised management plan, 5 years in the making and finally released
today, stepped back in key
areas from the draft plan's solid first steps toward protecting
the long-term health of some of Colorado's most important ecosystems.
The Aspen
Wilderness Workshop is a non-profit organization dedicated towards
the
protection and conservation of the natural resources of the Roaring
Fork Valley, the
White River National Forest, and the greater Southern Rockies Ecosystem.
Colorado Wild's
Forest Watch Campaign (FWC)
Forest Watch Campaign staff and volunteers bring decades of combined
experience to bear on Forest Service decision makers. The FWC committee
examines logging proposals that may threaten the ecological integrity
of Colorado's forests, and comprehensively points out where the
Forest Service underestimates or ignores altogether the ecological
impacts of timber sales. To modify, or stop altogether, timber sales
that invaded roadless areas, threaten habitat for dwindling species,
or destroys Old Growth forests, the FWC committee also works to
educate and involve local communities and the general public.
Southern Rockies Forest
Network
The Southern Rockies Forest Network's mission is to save the last
unprotected
wildlands in the Southern Rockies, and to preserve and restore native
biodiversity
through advocacy, education, and legal action.
