Over the next several years, the BLM will develop management plans
for new National Monuments under its jurisdiction. The agency has
the responsibility (under federal law, its regulations and the presidential
proclamations that established many monuments) to address off-road
vehicle damage and to apply some common sense limits to off-road
vehicle use. The planning process offers the very best opportunity
for the American people to help chart the course of these areas.
In an effort to facilitate public involvement, the Natural Trails
and Waters Coalition web site will provide information about the
planning process in general and planning on a monument-by-monument
basis. In addition, The Wilderness Society has developed an interactive
web site that includes
information about planning on a monument-by-monument basis.
